MISSIONAL LIVing

Everyday Missionaries

When we talk about mission at Liberty, we are not primarily talking about activities. We are talking about how we live.

Our hope is that every person in our church learns to live as a follower of Jesus in the ordinary places of life. At home. At work. In school. In neighbourhoods and communities across the city. We believe that faith is not something we switch on for church gatherings, but something that shapes how we show up everywhere else.

One of our shared practices is working with holy intent. That means learning to live attentively, faithfully, and lovingly right where we are. In that sense, mission is not something a few people do on behalf of everyone else. It is the everyday calling of the whole church.

We believe we are sent people, even when we never leave our postcode. This looks like choosing presence over distance. Listening well. Practising generosity. Offering hospitality. Being people of peace in divided spaces. Sharing our stories when the time is right, and trusting God with the results.

Much of our mission happens quietly and unseen, through ordinary lives lived with faithfulness. That is not the background work. That is the work!

Shared Missional Life

Alongside this everyday way of living, there are also things we do together as a church. These shared expressions help us practise compassion, generosity, and hope in visible ways across our city.

The Great Big Giveaway

Each Christmas, our community comes together for a large-scale food distribution across Dublin. Last year, over 3,250 food hampers were prepared and given out to families in need across our city. Each hamper provides enough food to cover three meals a day for a family of four for a week.

This is a significant operation involving a lot of planning, logistics, volunteers, partnerships, and generosity. More than that, it is a tangible way of standing alongside families at a pressured time of year and saying, you are not forgotten. We often describe it a love in a bag.

There is an episode of Liberty Conversations podcast telling the story of how this work has grown and what it has meant. Check it out here:

Weekly Drop-In, Ballyfermot

Every Friday, members of our church host a drop-in space at Ballyfermot Civic Centre. It is a simple, relational environment where people can come to connect, chat, and be known.

Through this space, we regularly help people access further support, including referrals to addiction services and other community resources. Much of this happens through the trust and experience of people within our church who are already embedded in these contexts.

Home Church Mission

Our home churches often carry their own missional expressions, shaped by the people and places they belong to. A question we ask each week as we gather is “who can we help?”. In response to that there’s a regular flow of outreach events happening across the city including:

  • Nights of Hope and Nights of Healing

  • Evenings of testimony and shared stories

  • Community gatherings rooted in prayer, worship, and invitation

These moments are about people sharing how Jesus has met them, and creating space for others to encounter hope.

The Big Day Out

Each summer, we run The Big Day Out, a series of family-focused community events across different areas. These days include food, games, face painting, and activities for all ages. At heart, they are about creating joyful, welcoming spaces for families. No agenda. No pressure. Just good food, shared laughter, and presence.

Care Beyond the Church

Members of Liberty are also involved in visiting prisons, hospitals, and other places of vulnerability. These acts of care are often quiet and personal, but they form an important part of our shared life. We believe that faithfulness in hidden places matters deeply to God.

Local and Global

Mission begins where we are. Sometimes it also reaches further than we ever expected. While this page focuses on our local missional life, we are also involved in long-term mission overseas, particularly in Lesotho. You can read more about that here.

A Way of Life

Mission at Liberty is not a department. It is not a programme to join. It is a way of life we are learning together.

We are not trying to do everything. We are trying to be faithful. To love our neighbours. To serve our city. To play our part in what God is already doing.

If something here resonates with you, the next step is simple: Pay attention to where you are already placed. Ask God what faithfulness looks like in your own life, neighbourhood, or community. And if you’d like to explore that journey alongside others, we would love to walk with you.
