10:02 PRAYER - SENT INTO THE HARVEST
Pray. Be Sent. Step Into the Harvest.
I want to encourage you with something the Lord has built deeply into my life over many years. It is a Bible verse that has become a foundation and a pillar of how we live and serve.
It comes from word’s Jesus spoke, as recorded in the Gospel of Luke.
“The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.”
Jesus was preparing to send His disciples into towns and villages. There were needs everywhere. Hearts ready. Lives waiting. He began with prayer.
The harvest is ready. The issue is workers. So pray.
The Practical Call of Luke 10:2
There are some very practical steps in this passage that have shaped our lives.
1. Acknowledge You Need to Be “Sent”
The word used for “send” in verse 2 comes from the Greek word ekballō. It’s a strong word, often used when Jesus casts out demons. It describes a greater force entering and driving out a lesser one.
That speaks to me personally. Before I go into the harvest, something has to happen inside me. I have to admit:
• I can get comfortable
• I can get fearful
• I don’t always want rejection
• I can become passive or distracted
Sometimes we don’t just need instruction, we need a greater force of God’s love to enter our hearts and move us. His love, mercy, and grace push past fear and complacency.
So the first prayer is simple:
“Lord, move in me. Stir me. Change my heart. Send me.”
2. Ask for Empowerment
Then Jesus says: I send you out as lambs among wolves.”
That sounds vulnerable, and it is. But this sending is different from ‘Ekballo” it’s the word “Apostollos’ it’s Apostolic Anointing that same empowerment, equipping and enabling that we see in the Book of Acts, this word carries the truth of being commissioned with authority. He doesn’t just push us out, he empowers us.
So we pray:
“Lord, fill me with Your Holy Spirit. Anoint me. Equip me. Make me useful in Your Kingdom.”
We go with His love, His presence, and His authority. Yes, we are lambs, but lambs sent by God are more powerful than wolves.
3. Ask for a People Group — and Make It Practical
Jesus had specific towns in mind. So we don’t pray vaguely. We pray intentionally. Ask the Lord:
• Who are You sending me to?
• What people group should be on my heart?
Then make it practical.
We set our alarms for 10:02 in the morning and 10:02 at night as a reminder of Luke 10:2. When the alarm goes off, we stop and pray:
“Lord of the harvest, send labourers into Your harvest field.”
It keeps us committed. It reminds us. The alarm calls us back to the mission.
My Own “People Groups”: The Four H’s
For me personally, the Lord put certain groups on my heart: Hospitals, Hostels, Hospices & Hotels. Those were my four H’s. I also pray for government and prisons.
And I can honestly say that God has allowed me to go into every one of those places.
I’ve prayed in hospitals with the sick and with staff, doctors, nurses, porters, receptionists. I’ve been in hospices with people near the end of life, bringing prayer and comfort. I’ve been in hostels with people facing homelessness, addiction, and mental health struggles, praying with them and for their families. We’ve even held major prayer gatherings in hotels, praying for the city and for workers there, believers walking corridors, working desks, welcoming guests. We pray that God would fill them with His love and empower them to share when the opportunity comes. Because we prayed, God opened doors.
Praying for Government
We prayed Luke 10:2 for our government, that God would send labourers there. People who already know Him. People He would raise up.
One day, while praying in my home during a 10:02 prayer time, within weeks we were invited into Dáil Éireann. We found ourselves in the gallery praying while government was in session. We were even brought into areas where national media operate and were able to pray there. Since then, we’ve seen national platforms give space for Christian services and testimonies of people coming to faith.
That didn’t begin with influence. It began with prayer!
So Let Me Encourage You: Pray! Ask God to move in your heart. Ask Him to fill you with His Spirit. Ask Him to empower you with His love and authority. Ask Him for a people group. Set your alarm for 10:02 AM and 10:02 PM. And when it goes off, lift your heart to heaven and pray: “Lord of the harvest, send labourers.” Then add this: “Lord, if You want me to be one of them — I’m ready.”
God bless you in the sending. God bless you with encounters. God bless you as you step into the harvest He already says is ready.
