REDISCOVERING WHO WE ARE: A MISSION STATEMENT
Over the past few years, we’ve been on a journey of rediscovery as a church, back to the simplicity, beauty, and power of what it means to be the people of God. As a church rooted in Dublin, we believe this mission is lived out in everyday life, in our homes, workplaces, and neighbourhoods. Through planting Home Churches, gathering in smaller spaces, and reimagining how we live out our faith day-to-day, we’ve seen God breathe fresh life into our church.
Over the past while we've put a bit of effort into trying to capture that mission in a statement, not just to have a slogan to frame on a wall but as a compass for who we are becoming. Here's what we've come up with:
We are a movement of ordinary people led by the Spirit of God, practicing the ways of Jesus in our communities, so that everyone can encounter His life-transforming love.
This phrase captures what we sense God calling us to live out and multiply in every community: an ordinary people, full of the Spirit, following Jesus together, so that the world might experience His love through us.
Below is a reflection on each part of that statement, what it means to us, and how it shapes our life together at Liberty.
We are a movement..
Not just a Sunday gathering or a set of meetings, but a people on the move.
God is writing a story in our city and beyond, and He invites us to be part of it.
A “movement” reminds us that church is alive and growing; disciples making disciples, faith spilling over into everyday life.
of ordinary people…
No perfect people, no spiritual elite. We are teachers and builders, parents and students, neighbours and friends; everyday men and women Jesus calls by name.
Our confidence is not in ourselves but in what God can do through ordinary lives surrendered to Him.
led by the Spirit of God…
The Holy Spirit is the life and power of the church. He guides our steps, shapes our character, and equips us with gifts to serve the world.
We depend on His presence more than our own plans; without Him we have no movement at all.
practicing the ways of Jesus…
We want to live as Jesus lived and do what He taught. The church is His after all!
That means rhythms of prayer and worship, reading Scripture, fellowship, showing mercy, and loving our neighbours.
It’s a daily apprenticeship, learning to forgive, to serve, to speak good news, to embody the kingdom of God in ordinary life.
in our communities…
Following Jesus is personal but not private.
As we live out His ways, serving, showing mercy, and offering friendship, our streets, schools and workplaces should be better places.
Our faith should be obvious in the way we care, speak, and work for the good of our communities so that others can glimpse the love of God in everyday life.
so that everyone…
The gospel is for all: every background, every story, every question.
We long to see people of every age and background discover that they too are invited into the family of God.
can encounter His life-transforming love.
Jesus’ love is not just an idea; it changes everything. It heals the broken, restores hope, forgives sin, and gives new life.
Our prayer is that through us, imperfect as we are, people will meet Jesus and be forever changed.
